FCBA New England Chapter “Regulation of Big Data”
Overview
We are less than one week away from the upcoming FCBA New England Chapter “Regulation of Big Data” event, and we hope to see you there. Please RSVP via email to jmccarthy@ctia.org.
The New England Chapter of the Federal Communications Bar Association, in association with the Boston University College of Communication, invites you to “Regulation of Big Data,” an exploration of legal provisions and associated policies governing the communications ecosystem, from large broadband and wireless providers, to so-called “edge” providers such as Amazon, Facebook and Google, to app developers and smaller communications providers. Please join us and our speakers from government, academia and industry as we discuss the following:
• Public policy and consumer concerns raised by the new Age of Data and practices relative to acquisition, use and retention of personal-specific data by broadband providers, large edge providers, and smaller players;
• Nature and efficacy of current regulations applicable to all members of the Data ecosystem, including FCC Title I versus Title II authority, FTC authority over trade practices, Justice Department and FCC merger reviews, federal and state privacy laws and overseas regulations, including European Community anti-trust reviews and the new General Data Privacy Regulations (GDPR) that will hold large U.S. companies to higher data protection standards than under U.S. laws; and
• Nature and timing of possible policy responses to particular issues, including (but not limited to) continued reliance on current laws, development of new federal or state laws/rules, and market forces.
