Overview   of Fitchburg - Water Street Bridges Replacement

A Virtual Design Public Hearing/Public Information Meeting will be published/hosted on the MassDOT website to present the design for the proposed Fitchburg-Bridge Replacement and related work Water Street (State 2A) over Boulder Drive and Pan-Am Railroad and Water Street (Route 12) over North Nashua River project in Fitchburg, MA.

Purpose:

The purpose of this hearing webinar is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed Fitchburg Water Street Bridges Replacement project. All views and comments submitted in response to the webinar will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.

Proposal:

The proposed project consists of replacement of the Water Street Bridge over the Pan-Am Railroad and Boulder Drive and the reconstruction of the Water Street Bridge over the North Nashua River. Once the project has been completed the life cycle and serviceability of both bridges will be extended and safety for all roadway users will be increased. The completed project will make sidewalk and curb ramp improvements within the project limits. A shared use path on the east side of the Water Street over Boulder Drive and Pan-Am Railroad will be constructed. Both bridges will have better lane and shoulder definition. Water Street Bridge Over Boulder Drive will have added under bridge lighting.

A secure right-of-way is necessary for this project. Acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is responsible for acquiring all needed rights in private or public lands. MassDOT’s policy concerning land acquisitions will be presented in the webinar.
