Overview   of Fitchburg/Leominster - Twin Cities Rail Trail, Phase 2 public information meeting 4/13/23

A Live Virtual Public Informational Meeting will be hosted on the MassDOT website below to present the design for the proposed Phase 2 Twin Cities Rail Trail (TCRT) project in Fitchburg, MA.

Purpose

The purpose of this meeting is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed TCRT Phase 2 project. All views and comments submitted in response to the meeting will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.

Proposal

The purpose of this project is to provide safer and improved transportation access for bicycle users and pedestrians between the Cities of Leominster and Fitchburg and to provide a safe connection to the MART Intermodal Transportation Center in downtown Fitchburg. As envisioned, this regional trail will connect areas of cultural, economic, social, and natural significance along the multi community corridor and provide a non-motorized transportation and recreational alternative for people of all ages and abilities. Phase 2 of the TCRT project will complete the trail in Fitchburg, by connecting the end of the current trail constructed under Phase 1 at 4th Street and continuing to the multi-modal station. The connection includes an on-road section along Railroad Street to approximately 1st Street, where the trail will climb a retained earth structure leading to a bridge over the MBTA Commuter Line railroad tracks, across property owned by Unitil, across the North Nashua River, and over private property to the MART property on an elevated structure.

MassDOT provides reasonable accommodations and/or language assistance free of charge upon request (e.g interpreters in American Sign Language and languages other than English, live captioning, videos, assistive listening devices and alternate material formats), as available.
