Overview   of Newbury, Newburyport, Salisbury - Resurfacing and Related Work on Route 1 - Public Information Meeting

A Live Virtual Public Information Meeting will be hosted on the MassDOT website below to present information about the proposed resurfacing and related work on Route 1 in Newbury, Newburyport, and Salisbury.

Purpose: 

The purpose of this hearing is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed resurfacing and related work on Route 1. All views and comments submitted in response to the hearing will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.

Proposal:

The proposed project consists of the resurfacing of Route 1; improvements to the Newburyport Rotary; removing and disposing of existing guardrail along the mainline, and replacing it with new guardrail and end treatments; replacing all grates and covers with bolt down grates and bolt down covers; adjusting, cleaning and rebuilding drainage structures; removing and resetting granite edging; replacing all frames and grates; replacing any broken granite curb and edging; sidewalk and wheelchair ramp replacement at intersection of Route 1 and Low St./Pond St.; removing and resetting of signs; placing final pavement markings; and completing incidental items and as required by the Engineer. Bicycle accommodations consisting of a usable shoulder have been provided in accordance with applicable design guides.

Construction of the proposed project is expected to commence in June of 2022 and continue until mid-March of 2025.

Statements and exhibits intended for inclusion in the public hearing transcript must be emailed or postmarked no later than ten (10) business days (14 calendar days) after the hearing is hosted on the MassDOT website listed below.  

This hearing is accessible to people with disabilities.
