Overview of Pre Harvest Forest Tour - Townsend State Forest
Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) Forester Mike Waterman, will be leading a tour of the West Hill Timber Sale where he will discuss forest management techniques in a mixed hardwood forest and a white pine plantation, provide a view of the trees designated for harvest, and explain how harvest operations will take place. A detailed silviculture prescription for the harvesting operation will be provided to attendees. This tour culminates a public process that included a public meeting and a written comment period for the project.
Meet at the parking lot at the entrance to the State Forest off of Fessenden Hill Road, in Townsend. (Directions listed below). The tour will be conducted “rain or shine” as indicated below. Attendees are encouraged to dress for the weather and to wear sturdy shoes. Directions: From Townsend Center and the intersection of Rt. 119 and Rt. 13, travel approximately 1.25 miles North on Brookline Road (Rt. 13) to Fessenden Hill Road on the left. State Forest gate and parking lot is approximately 0.25 miles up Fessenden Hill Road.
