Public Hearing Notice  Westport - Intersection improvements at Route 177 and Roberts Road/Tickle Road

A Live Virtual Design Public Hearing will be hosted on the MassDOT website below to present the design for the proposed Intersection Improvements at Route 177 and Roberts Road/Tickle Road project in Westport, MA.

Purpose:

The purpose of this hearing is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed Intersection Improvements at Route 177 and Roberts Road/Tickle Road project. All views and comments submitted in response to the hearing will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.

Proposal:

The proposed project consists of constructing a single lane roundabout with a 110-foot inscribed circle, shifted off-center within the existing intersection. This work will require utility pole relocations. New stormwater and drainage improvements will be included. Roadway approaches will be reconstructed as required to match to existing grade and provide smooth transitions. An 8-foot-wide bi-directional shared use path with a 5-foot-wide grass buffer has been provided in accordance with applicable design guides for pedestrian and bicycle accommodation on the north side of Route 177. The shared use path is also provided toward and crossing the Tickle Road approach to the roundabout. A 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalk is provided along the southern quadrants of the roundabout and crossing the Roberts Street approach to the roundabout.

A secure right-of-way is necessary for this project. Acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required. The town of Westport and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts are responsible for acquiring all needed rights in private or public lands. MassDOT’s policy concerning land acquisitions will be presented in the hearing.
