Overview of Wilmington – Bridge replacement, Route 129 over I-93
A Virtual Design Public Hearing will be hosted on the MassDOT website below to present the design for the proposed Bridge Replacement, W-38-029 (2KV), ST129 Lowell Street over I 93 project in Wilmington, MA.
Purpose:
The purpose of this hearing is to provide the public with the opportunity to become fully acquainted with the proposed bridge replacement project. All views and comments submitted in response to the hearing will be reviewed and considered to the maximum extent possible.
Proposal:
The proposed project consists of replacing Bridge No. W-38-029 (2KV) carrying Route 129 (Lowell Street) over I-93 in the Town of Wilmington. The existing four span bridge will be replaced with a two span structure of approximately the same overall length. The new bridge cross section will consist of a 6’-0 sidewalks, a 5’-0” bike lane with 2’-0” buffers and an 11’-0” travel lanes, in each direction. This sidewalk and roadway configuration will continue in the approaches for approximately 100’ on the east side and 75’ on the west side of the bridge, before tying back into the existing roadway. The bridge replacement will be done using staged construction so that one lane of bi-directional traffic is always maintained. Bike and Pedestrian accommodations have been provided in accordance with applicable design guides.
A secure right-of-way is necessary for this project. Acquisitions in fee and permanent or temporary easements may be required. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is responsible for acquiring all needed rights in private or public lands however currently no rights in private land are required to complete this project. MassDOT’s policy concerning land acquisitions will be presented in the hearing.
