Guide Certificate of Admission and Good Standing

A Certificate of Admission and Good Standing may be needed as proof of admission for another jurisdiction, at the request of a potential employer, to obtain a real estate broker's license, or to form a limited liability partnership, professional corporation, etc.

Requirements

You must mail (fax will not be accepted) the completed application for Certificate of Admission and Good Standing with the required fee to the following address:

Process

Upon receipt of the application and the fee, this office will process the request within 3-5 business days and the Certificate of Admission and Good Standing will be mailed to you. In the alternative, if your application with the fee has been processed and the Certificate of Admission and Good Standing has been generated, you may pick up the certificate from the Supreme Judicial Court. To determine if your certificate has been generated call 617-557-1050. You may pick up the certificate any time between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Please be advised that the signed application is valid for a period of 30 days.

Please note if your application discloses an informal admonition or private reprimand, you should request that the application be placed in a non-public file.

Fees

The fee for a Certificate of Admission and Good Standing is a non-refundable check made payable to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for $15 for each Certificate of Admission and Good Standing.

If the 30 days of application validity has not expired, an additional certificate may be obtained upon receipt of an additional $15 fee; otherwise, if the 30 days has expired it will be necessary for you to repeat the application process in order to receive an additional certificate.

Other Jurisdictions

Requirements may vary in other jurisdictions. In Connecticut and Florida, a copy of your bar application is required along with your certificate. The cost for a certified copy of a bar application ($10) and a certificate ($15) is $25. 

To obtain a certified copy of a Massachusetts bar application that has been filed with Clerk's Office, send a written request with the required $10 check (payable to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts) to this following address:
