You can volunteer to help pick-up litter along highways through our Adopt-A-Highway program.

The Details

Program details

  • Each volunteer group adopts a 2-mile section of a highway and removes litter at least once a month. 
  • MassDOT will fabricate and install a sign with your company name and logo on the highway to recognize your group for their hard work.

Volunteer criteria

To participate in the Adopt-A-Highway program in Massachusetts, volunteers must meet the following criteria.

Age Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 11 years old.

Fitness: Volunteers should be mentally alert, responsible, and in good physical condition, including sight and hearing.

Teams: Volunteer teams for Adopt-A-Highway consist of at least 6 members. If your team has volunteers under 18, you must have an adult supervisor for every 4 volunteers under 15 or every 6 volunteers that are 15-17.
