What you need to Apply for a Real Estate Appraiser License
- All applications, except course submissions must have: A notarized Criminal Offender Record Information Authorization Form completed and signed by the applicant and a photo of applicant. Individual specifications are below.
Trainee Applicants
- Submit the Supervisor Trainee Report Form
- Primary Education Certificates of Completion – full list can be found in the regulations.
Upgrade Exam Applicants
- Primary Education Certificates of Completion – full list can be found in the regulations.
- Signed Experience Reporting Form (can be on an excel spreadsheet, see Work Experience Log Sample here).
- State Licensed must complete 1000 hours in no fewer than 6 months.
- Certified Residential must complete 1500 hours in no fewer than 12 months.
- Certified General must complete 3000 hours in no fewer than 18 months (1500 must be non-residential).
- Signed Experience Affidavit from Supervisor.
- College Transcripts
- State Licensed no degree is required.
- Certified Residential must have Bachelor’s Degree or Associates Degree in regulation specific concentrations or 30 hours of college level courses in regulation specific areas.
- Certified General must have Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
- If applicable, an explanatory document detailing all prior or pending disciplinary actions against any professional license held by the applicant in any jurisdiction, foreign or domestic. Please include certified copies of any disciplinary documents or official records of the disciplinary action.
- If applicable, an explanatory document detailing all prior felony or misdemeanor convictions against the applicant in any jurisdiction, foreign or domestic. Please include copies of certified court records related to the conviction.
Reciprocal Appraiser (only current Certified and Licensed Appraisers) Applicants
- Proof of good standing required.
Temporary Practice Permit Applicants
- Engagement letter required.
Fees for Apply for a Real Estate Appraiser license
All fees are non-refundable. License Fees are listed by Type Class.
Certified General and Certified Residential: Application payment is due when submitting application. Original (license) payment is made to the Vendor after passing the exam.
Note that if you are applying for Reciprocity both the application and original (license) fee are due at the time of application.
State Licensed: Application payment is due when submitting application. Original (license) payment is made to the Vendor after passing the exam.

Application review and processing times
Please note upgrade applications are reviewed and approved at Board meetings which meet generally every other month. The Board will only review complete applications. Failure to submit all required information or supporting documents will result in your application being deemed incomplete or denied.
Once approved the Board will e-mail an approval letter to the e-mail address provided by the applicant during the application process.

If you have been convicted of a crime you must list all offenses inclusive of OUI, DUI, and Operating after/with suspended license or registration. Dispositions of “continued without finding” (“CWOF”) or “admission to sufficiency of facts” must also be reported. Do not include minor traffic offense(s). Likewise, if you have been disciplined in the past by another licensing authority, you are required to report the final disposition to this Board with your application.
