Apply to be a registered consultant to perform duties involving radiation or radioactive materials

You must register with the Division of Radiation Control (DRC) to provide health physics or radiation protection services in Massachusetts.
As of September 9, 2025, all Registration of Services applications and renewals must be submitted through the Environmental Health eLicensing Portal. Paper applications and mailed payments will no longer be accepted.

What you need

To apply, you will need:

  • An individual eLicensing account (registrations are now per individual, not by facility)
  • A completed online application in the eLicensing system
  • Information on your employer (added to your eLicensing profile)
  • Electronic payment of the registration fee

Fees

$150 per registration (initial and annual/per individual)

How to apply

Go to the Environmental Health eLicensing Portal and create an account, or log into your existing account. If this is your first time using the portal, review the BCEH eLicensing System User Guide.

  • Existing registrants for calendar year 2025 do not need to take any action until renewal.
  • Starting with calendar year 2026, all new and renewal applications must be completed online through eLicensing.
  • Consulting services exempt from the registration fee :
    • Only non-ionizing (i.e., EMF, RF, MW etc.) consultation
    • Only Dump Transfer Station response
    • Only Teletherapy / HDR physics consultation
    • Only NIAT response (non-dump calls)
    • Any multiple of the above, only
