Current Board Vacancy
The LSP Board (“the Board”) has one vacant slot that, according to General Law Chapter 21A, § 19A, must be filled by someone who is a current member of a statewide organization that promotes the protection of the environment and who is knowledgeable with respect to issues involving responding to releases of oil and hazardous materials. The appointment is subject to confirmation by the Governor.
The Board is comprised of eleven members. The Chairperson of the Board is the Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (“MassDEP”) or his/her designee. The remaining ten members are appointed by the Governor. Five (5) of the members must be licensed LSPs; three (3) must be members of state-wide environmental organizations; one (1) must be a hydrogeologist; and one (1) must be a member of a labor organization.
The Board licenses LSPs to manage cleanups and provide formal, written opinions that cleanup work meets state regulatory requirements. The Board oversees the licensing of LSPs by establishing application requirements, creating and administering a licensing examination, and setting requirements for LSPs to take continuing education courses in order to renew their licenses every three years. The Board has also established rules of professional conduct LSPs must follow, investigates complaints against LSPs and disciplines LSPs for violations of the Board’s regulations. The Board meets monthly except for July and December.
