General information
All electricians must renew their licenses online using the Division of Occupational Licensure's (DOL) e-PLACE Portal.
About 60 to 90 days before the July 31st expiration date, licensees will receive a renewal notice by mail with the information needed to link their license to the e-PLACE portal (if not already linked).
Licensees with linked accounts can begin renewing online as early as April 12.

How to renew Renew your electrician, systems technician, or systems contractor license
Renewing online
If this is your first-time renewing, please visit the Renew your occupational board license with ePLACE page for instructions. You will need the record ID and authorization code from the renewal notice that was mailed to you. If you did not receive a notice, you can use this tool obtain your record ID and authorization code. You can also obtain this information by emailing electricians.board@mass.gov with the following information:
- Licensee name
- License number
- Type of license
- License serial number
If this is not your first-time renewing, login at the e-PLACE Portal. Your username is your email address used at the time of account setup. Once logged in, the link to renew will be shown in the Actions column next to each license.
Updating your address of record
Licensees are reminded that it is their obligation to provide the Board with a current mailing address where they can reliably receive correspondence from the Board. Failure to do so may prevent your ability to receive the renewal notice and the license card.

Receiving the hard copy of your license
Upon successfully completing the online renewal process your license will display with the new expiration date. However, please be aware that it can take up to four (4) to six (6) weeks to receive the license card in the mail. Be sure to double check your address prior to submitting your renewal.
While you are waiting to receive the license by mail, persons may verify your license status by using the DOL's Check a License database.
Please note that the database may take twenty-four (24) to forty-eight (48) hours to update following the submission of your renewal online. If your status is not current after 48 hours, please contact the Board.
