What kinds of complaints do you investigate?

The False Claims Division of the Attorney General’s Office enforces the Massachusetts False Claims Act, G.L. c. 12, §§ 5A-5O by conducting civil investigations and prosecutions against companies and individual who mislead or defraud state or municipal entities through the use of false or fraudulent statements. This type of behavior includes:

  • A business invoices a municipality for a more than the agreed upon price.
  • A business asserts that it has provided a service and demands payment for a service that was not provided.
  • An individual makes false statements about his or her assets in order to receive benefits to which the individual is not entitled.
