Effective June 1, 2012, we based the APS Policy and APS Prioritization tool upon the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP) Project 3-62: Guidelines for Accessible Pedestrian Signals, Final Report.
We've committed to installing APS devices at all new traffic signals, at crosswalks with pedestrian indications and when possible, at existing traffic signals during any major alteration or reconstruction. We will also consider requests to retrofit existing traffic signals at MassDOT maintained locations that show a demonstrated need. You can submit a request using the downloadable APS request form.
