Overview
The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) is a federally funded employment and training program for older adults who meet the program’s eligibility requirements. SCSEP provides enrollees with on-the-job training at a Host Agency Site.
SCSEP is funded by the US Department of Labor and administered by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Aging & Independence
What is a Host Agency?
Host Agencies are local non-profit or government organizations. Host Agencies provide on-the-job training that meets the program enrollee’s skills, abilities, and interests.
Why Councils on Aging?
Councils on Aging (COA) have proven to be invaluable partners in helping SCSEP enrollees meet their goal of unsubsidized employment. Enrollees have a variety of interests and experience that could be a great fit with a COA such as clerical, food preparation, maintenance, landscaping, etc.
As a Host Agency, the COA provides training in the job skills being sought by the enrollee, adequate supervision, and a safe work environment.
Training Assignment
Enrollees work 20 hours per week and are paid by SCSEP. An assignment is generally a 12-month period.
