Chemical threats to public health

Chemical threat agents can be poisonous vapors, aerosols, liquids or solids that have toxic effects on people.

These chemicals can be naturally occurring in the environment or synthetically produced. Chemical releases can be unintentional, as in the case of an industrial accident, or intentional, as in the case of a terrorist attack.

    • The goals of the CHEMM website are to enable first responders, first receivers, other healthcare providers, and planners to plan for, respond to, recover from, and mitigate the effects of mass-casualty incidents involving chemicals. It also provides a comprehensive, user-friendly, web-based resource that is downloadable in advance, so that it would be available during an event if the internet is not accessible.
