Greetings from DCAMM Contractor Certification!
What is needed to satisfy the Worker’s Comp requirement in your application?
What are we looking for?
The statutory requirement is that a company seeking to do public work in Massachusetts must have a current Worker’s Compensation Policy showing coverage in Massachusetts.
What do we accept as proof of coverage?
Worker’s Comp Policy including the policy information page showing coverage in MA.
Certificates of Insurance that affirmatively indicates coverage in MA. If the certificate does not specifically state coverage in MA it is not acceptable as evidence of insurance.
Evidence from the Department of Industrial Accidents confirming coverage in Massachusetts. A snip from the website confirming coverage is sufficient.
What if the Insurance is in the name of a parent company or affiliated company?
If the applicant contractor is covered under the policy of another entity, we will need the policy with the additional insured schedule attached.
What if the company qualifies for self-insurance in Massachusetts?
If your company meets the qualifications for self-insurance in Massachusetts, you must include a copy of your current self-insurance license issued by the Department of Industrial Accidents Office of Insurance with your application.
Do you have to update your policy with DCAMM after your certificate has been issued?
No. It is not necessary to send in an updated policy once your application has been approved. You will be required to submit an updated policy if your workers compensation policy expires while your application is under review. You may also be required to provide an updated policy with a bid.
Stay tuned for the next installment...
