The Division of Banks (DOB) is dedicated to maintaining sound, competitive, and accessible financial services throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. We achieve this by overseeing state-chartered banks and credit unions, as well as supervising and licensing various non-bank financial industries.

How to Apply?

All applications for examiner and manager positions are submitted through MassCareers.

  1. Create a MassCareers account:
    • Go to mass.gov/masscareers.
    • Click "Find Your Job," then "Sign In"
    • Accept the privacy agreement and click "New User" to create an account.
  2. Apply for a posting:
    • Log in and select "See all Organizations" from the left menu.
    • Search for and select "Division of Banks," then click "Add."
    • Review the available postings and click "Apply Online" for the positions you're interested in.

Intern Positions

The DOB posts internships on Handshake and may also participate in programs like the Executive Office of Economic Development (EOED) internship program. To apply, you should have a Handshake or MassCareers account and submit a resume and/or cover letter as required by the specific posting.

Examiner Positions

Examiners ensure that financial institutions and licensed entities adhere to sound practices, applicable laws, rules, and regulations. They compile and analyze data, prepare reports, and present their findings to management.

Roles may include:

  • Risk Management: Examines records of banks and credit unions to ensure they follow sound practices.
  • Consumer Protection: Examines financial companies and institutions to ensure compliance with consumer protection laws.
  • IT/Cybersecurity/Fintech: Examines IT and cybersecurity policies and practices.
  • Licensing: Reviews initial applications and annual renewals for non-depository entities.

Intern Positions

The DOB hires seasonal interns. Available internships are based on unit needs and may be part-time (fall & spring) or full-time (summer). When available, seasonal internship positions are posted to job boards at colleges and universities around the area.

Seasonal Internship opportunities may include:

  • Consumer Assistance Unit: Responds to consumer inquiries and complaints, reviews case documents, and prepares letters and memos.
  • Operations Unit: Supports administration, staffing, development, and IT projects by assisting with policy updates, data compilation, and recruitment strategies.
  • Data Analytics and Risk Management: Utilizes data analytics software (e.g., Python and Tableau) to analyze data and identify trends.
  • IT/Cybersecurity/Fintech: Research cryptocurrency and FinTech activity and assists with best practice policies based on various frameworks.
