This is the first page of a letter, dated August 8, 2023, from Governor Healey to Alejandro Mayorkas, the then Secretary of Homeland Security. On this page, Governor Healey states that she is proclaiming a state of emergency related to the number of families and pregnant people, including newly arrived refugees and migrants, in Massachusetts.
This is the second page of a letter, dated August 8, 2023, from Governor Healey to Alejandro Mayorkas, the then Secretary of Homeland Security. On this page, Governor Healey states that demand for shelter grew that year from 68 families a day in March 2023 to over 100 families a day in July 2023, compared to 25 families a day in March 2022. Governor Healey then asks for federal assistance to address the state of emergency in Massachusetts.
This is the final page of a letter, dated August 8, 2023, from Governor Healey to Alejandro Mayorkas, the then Secretary of Homeland Security. On this final page, Governor Healey states that she will use her position to issue directions, recommendations, and orders within the state to address the ongoing issues related to an increase demand for shelters. She also requests “immediate federal intervention.”
