What is a payment standard?
Housing vouchers pay different amounts toward your rent based on the location of the apartment you are renting. Your voucher may pay more in one town than in another. This is because housing costs are different in different areas of the state. Each region has a different “payment standard,” or maximum payment that a housing agency can pay to a landlord on behalf of a tenant (via the voucher).
Using the tool below you can find out how much a voucher would pay toward rent in each zip code in Massachusetts.
Disclaimers: If you received your Section 8 voucher through a local housing authority outside of EOHLC, these payment standards may not apply. Please refer to your housing authority’s materials.
The housing agency must determine if a rent is reasonable and approve it. The rents shown below may not be approved even if lower than the "payment standard." EOHLC strives to keep this information updated, but does not guarantee the accuracy of these payment standards. Please visit the HUD Website for more information.
