PUBLIC SESSION
MEETING CONVENED
Committee Chair Josefina Martinez called the meeting to order at 10:11 a.m. Also in attendance was Commissioner Eron Hackshaw and General Counsel/Legal Division Chief Eve Slattery. Committee Chair Martinez, Commissioner Hackshaw and Ms. Slattery participated remotely.
REMOTE PARTICIPATION
Committee Chair Martinez announced that the meeting would take place remotely pursuant to Governor Baker’s Order Suspending Certain Provisions of the Open Meeting Law, G.L. c. 30A, § 20, dated March 12, 2020. She stated that members of the public had been invited to watch and listen to the public session via Zoom Webinar. Committee Chair Martinez noted that all votes at the meeting would be taken by roll call.
DISCUSSION
Process for the evaluation of the job performance of the executive director
Committee Chair Martinez discussed the Commission’s evaluation process of the Executive Director. She stated that she and Commissioner Hackshaw will meet with staff to solicit feedback on the Executive Director’s performance. She noted that the voluntary interviews ensure that staff have the opportunity to share their opinions and provide constructive criticism. They will also meet with the Executive Director separately to review his core competencies and major job responsibilities. Committee Chair Martinez added that the Committee would present its report to the Commission in public session at an upcoming Commission meeting.
Commissioner Hackshaw asked whether there were any specific metrics or goals to measure the Executive Director’s performance. Committee Chair Martinez explained that the Committee used a performance evaluation rubric last year to thoroughly assess the Executive Director’s quality of work and areas of improvement. She said that she, Commissioner Hackshaw, and Ms. Slattery will schedule interviews with staff and the Executive Director soon.
