The Department of Mental Health assures and provides access to services and supports to meet the mental health needs of individuals of all ages, enabling them to live, work, and participate in their communities.

To access mental health services, complete the Child/Adolescent Application for Child Mental Health Services.

An individual can appeal the decision of DMH if they have been denied a request to received DMH services.

Human Rights Handbook details the ways in which DMH strives to protect the rights of its clients.

Massachusetts Association for Mental Health (MAMH) provides individual case advocacy for individuals and families seeking services. MAMH also assists with applications for adult or child and adolescent services from the Department of Mental Health, MassHealth, and other government departments.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

National Alliance on Mental Illness provides support for families with a person with a mental illness and has a local Massachusetts chapter.

Department of Public Health, Division for Children & Youth with Special Health Needs

The Division for Children & Youth with Special Health Needs at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health works with families, providers, and others to support children and youth with special health needs ages birth to 22 and their families.

The programs include:

  • Community Support Line
  • Care Coordination Program for Children with Special Health Care Needs
  • Catastrophic Illness in Children Relief Fund
  • Family Initiatives
  • Family TIES of Massachusetts

Children’s Behavioral Health Initiative (CBHI)

Children's Behavior Health Initiative's mission is to ensure that children with MassHealth who have significant behavioral, emotional and mental health needs and their families get the services they need for success in home, school, community, and throughout life.
