Smart Growth / Smart Energy Policies

The Smart Growth & Smart Energy policy agenda recognizes the interconnection between land use, energy, and transportation policies.

By changing our land-use development patterns, we will:

  • Reduce emissions

  • Consume less land

  • Protect our natural resources.

Since energy use by transportation sector makes up a large share of total energy consumption. Realizing that more compact land use patterns is a critical strategy to reduce energy use and emissions.

EEA is focused on achieving better coordinated land use and energy policies consistent with the Administration's Sustainable Development Principles. With better land use planning and development, energy-efficient green buildings, new clean energy technologies, and targeted land conservation. We will improve the quality of life in the Commonwealth. Our goal is to help preserve the character of our communities, protect our natural resources, and build on our competitive economic advantage.
