The Massachusetts State Health Assessment (SHA) is a place where all residents and communities can locate what we know about the health of people who are born, live, learn, work, play, and age in Massachusetts. The SHA includes a wide variety of data sources for demographics, health outcomes, health behaviors, and community resources. These data help to identify the most important public health issues that are being addressed in order to achieve optimal health and well-being for all people in Massachusetts.

Data sources and limitations
Data for the State Health Assessment comes from many sources
Sources include but are not limited to the US Census Bureau, American Community Survey; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation, and several DPH data sources. Indicators that have race and ethnicity breakouts have a red asterisk. DPH is working to expand data by demographic breakouts in future updates. DPH recognizes that the way race and ethnicity breakouts are depicted, particularly around our American Indian and Native Alaskan populations has limitations. DPH is dedicated to improving this data inequity.
