What is TAA?
Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) provides benefits to workers who lose their jobs, or whose hours of work and wages are reduced as a result of increased imports, or whose jobs were exported offshore. The TAA program provides benefits which include a variety of reemployment services designed to help trade-affected workers prepare for and obtain suitable employment. |
TAA Affected Workers Flowchart The eligibility process is initiated by the filing of a petition with the US Department of Labor for a determination that the company's layoffs were trade-affected. If the investigation concludes granting certification to the company, each individual worker must apply for eligibility. Filing a Petition for Trade Benefits Eligibility: Any one of the following may file for a petition: Benefits Offered to Employees of a Trade-Certified Company Benefits provided under the Trade Act are administered by the MassHire Department of Career Services (MDCS) and Department of Unemployment Assistance (DUA) via your local Career Center. |
Individual Eligibility
After your company is certified, you must then apply for a determination of individual eligibility for the Program prior to being approved for training or any other benefits provided under the Trade Programs. These applications are referred in Massachusetts as the “Form 1666”. The 1666 Form can be filed electronically with the State via MassHire Department of Career Services.
