At the Department of Unemployment Assistance, we are dedicated to supporting Massachusetts workers through challenging times and assisting employers in navigating the unemployment insurance system.
Unemployment assistance provide temporary payments to eligible workers who lose their job through no fault of their own. Individuals must be able and available to work, and actively searching for a job to receive benefits.
Before Applying for Unemployment
Applying for unemployment assistance requires multiple steps. Review the resources below before submitting your claim or calling the DUA call center.
Am I eligible for benefits?
To get unemployment assistance, you must meet certain requirements. Your initial eligibility for assistance is based on your earnings and the reason for leaving your job. Learn more.

Unemployment Insurance Modernization
The Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development announced plans to modernize the DUA Insurance System in September 2023. Employers and Third-Party Administrators have been utilizing the new system to manage tax-related activities with the DUA, and a new self-service system for workers will launch in May 2025.
