MassDOT Highway Salt Remediation Program

The Salt Remediation Program addresses complaints of salt impacts to drinking water caused by MassDOT winter maintenance operations.

During winter maintenance operations, the use of salt may impact drinking water supplies in the form of elevated sodium and chloride concentrations.

MassDOT has developed a program to address these issues, which includes the Water Supply Salt Complaint Policy for the investigation and remediation of these matters.
