Media Contact for Attorney General's Office Announces Over $190,000 In Citations Against Riverdale Mills, A Northbridge Manufacturing Company
Max German, Deputy Press Secretary
Boston — Attorney General Andrea Joy Campbell today announced a $193,932.42 settlement with Riverdale Mills Manufacturing and an owner and president James Knott, Jr. The settlement resolves allegations that Riverdale failed to pay timely wages, failed to pay overtime, and failed to provide proper notice of earned sick time. The settlement money will come in the form of restitution and penalties.
Riverdale Mills is a Northbridge Massachusetts, closely held manufacturing company that welds wire-mesh fabrics for various industries, including security, marine, agriculture, and construction.
Through a review of Riverdale Mills’ records, investigators from the Attorney General’s Fair Labor Division found that Riverdale regularly failed to pay employees’ all wages earned due to various unlawful company policies, including, for example, rounding down employees’ hours when employees punched in at the beginning of the day, or back in after a meal break. Additionally, Riverdale regularly failed to pay overtime to employees due to undercounting hours and failed to make employees aware of their rights regarding earned sick time. The violations occurred between June 23, 2017 and August 9, 2021.
Workers who believe that their rights have been violated in the workplace are encouraged to file a complaint online at www.mass.gov/ago/FLD. For more information about the state’s wage and hour laws, workers may call the AG’s Fair Labor Hotline at (617) 727-3465 or go to www.mass.gov/ago/FairLabor for materials in multiple languages.
This matter was handled by Investigator Huong Phan and Assistant Attorney General Drew Cahill, both of AG Campbell’s Fair Labor Division.
