Keison Harry, an Assistant Chief Probation Officer at the Roxbury Division of the Boston Municipal Court, and Captain Tony Dear, a State Police Captain, met with Commissioner Pamerson Ifill and his Executive Leadership Team on Tuesday to express their gratitude for supporting the Massachusetts Probation Service's participation in the annual Boston Strong Invitational.
The Invitational is a two-day basketball tournament, sporting and community event to commemorate the lives lost during and as the result of the Boston Marathon tragedy. ACPO Harry and Captain Dear presented a framed Probation jersey to the Commissioner and his team.
"We appreciate the support you provide each year so that we can represent MPS and the Trial Court at the tournament. This event is a very worthy cause," said ACPO Harry.
State Police Captain Dear described the tournament as growing from 20 players to an event that attracted 26 high schools from across the state at this year's event. The 11th Annual Invitational took place August 10th-11th at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center. This year's tournament, which is hosted by the Massachusetts State Police, featured track events and races with Special Olympics athletes.
The Invitational brings Probation, first responders, law enforcement, youth, and local communities together to commemorate the lives lost during the tragedy. Each year for the past 10 years, ACPO Harry gathered a team of volunteers to represent the Massachusetts Trial Court and MPS.
This year’s event featured a vendor booth which contained information about Probation work in the community as well as available resources such as MPS’ Pretrial Services, Victim Services, sober and reentry housing, and MPS' statewide 18 Community Justice Resource Centers which provide counseling, drug testing, enrollment in MassHealth, and job and educational training.
