The Probation staff at the Roxbury Division of the Boston Municipal Court held a month-long observance for Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence Awareness Month, ended with a closing ceremony and luncheon where they all dressed in purple and recognized their colleagues who are breast cancer and domestic violence survivors.

The women were presented with bouquets of flowers, lavender, white, and red roses accented with daisies. Pink and purple decorations lined the walls in the Probation conference room where the luncheon and ceremony were held on October 31st at the Warren Street courthouse.

"We took the time to acknowledge courageous women. We celebrated Breast Cancer and Domestic Violence Awareness during the month of October because we want to show that we care about the issues that affect our community as well as the worldwide community," said Henry Bayas, BMC-Roxbury Probation Office Manager and one of the key organizers of what will be an annual event.

Mr. Bayas was among a group of organizers, which included Chief Susan Conrad, PO Wendy Pena, APO's Kaiesha Dias, Yasira Montas, and Charnette Singleton as well as Roxbury District Court staff.

"I want to thank  all of the organizers and my Roxbury colleagues who welcomed the idea," he said.

Mr. Bayas also offered a challenge: "I want to challenge other courts to participate next year so we can bring awareness as a united front."
