Massachusetts Apprenticeship Week will take place from November 12 to 18, 2023, in conjunction with National Apprenticeship Week.
Why is Massachusetts recognizing registered apprenticeship? It’s a key tool in the Healey-Driscoll Administration's toolbox to meet the moment and build a robust talent pipeline for a strong economic future, covering many industries and spanning regions across Massachusetts.
The Massachusetts Registered Apprenticeship Program combines technical training with on-the-job training, which means individuals earn while they learn from industry experts to equip themselves with the skills and credentials that employers need.
The registered apprenticeship model develops talent for occupations in-demand such as electricians, pipefitters, and plumbers in the construction and the building trades to cybersecurity analysts, lab technicians in biotech manufacturing, and direct care workers like medical assistants and CNAs in healthcare and human services.
Thanks to increased funding in fiscal year 2024, and with the support by the Legislature, the Healey-Driscoll Administration will place over 1,000 individuals in expanded registered apprenticeship opportunities in the coming months. The increased funding will also enhance pre-apprenticeship models in construction and other sectors to ensure that we create more equitable pathways for underrepresented populations including women and people of color.
