Boston, MA — The State Ethics Commission has preliminarily approved a new draft advisory explaining how the conflict of interest law applies when public employees use social media. The advisory is informational in nature; it does not have the force of law.

The Commission is publicly releasing this draft advisory in order to seek outside viewpoints to help ensure that it is a useful and effective educational resource. The draft advisory, with any revisions, will be brought back to the Commission for final approval at an upcoming Commission meeting. The draft advisory may be found here.

If you have any comments or suggestions about this draft advisory, please contact Eve Slattery, General Counsel, no later than Monday, November 16, 2020, by email at: eve.slattery@mass.gov. Please enter “Draft Social Media Advisory” in the subject line of your email.
