Boston, MA — Suffolk Superior Court Judge Michael Doolin ordered Manuel Duran, the former CEO of Casa Nueva Vida, to pay $382,843.67 in restitution. Mr. Duran pleaded guilty on September 29, 2022, in Suffolk Superior Court, to four counts of perjury, three counts of larceny through separate fraud schemes, and two counts of making false entries in corporate books. He was sentenced to one year in the Suffolk House of Correction.
In determining the restitution amount, Judge Doolin credited the testimony of OIG Senior Investigator Jack Meyers, who provided detailed testimony of Duran’s schemes to steal public funds that were designated to provide housing and services to homeless people. Meyers led the investigation following an anonymous tip to the OIG’s fraud hotline.
