At the direction of Governor Deval L. Patrick, Revenue Commissioner Alan LeBovidge today announced that taxpayers filing Massachusetts individual tax returns will also receive an additional 48 hours to file their 2006 returns. The Massachusetts tax filing deadline has been extended to midnight, Thursday, April 19.

"The Department will follow the IRS in extending the filing deadline for those taxpayers that were impacted by the recent storm," LeBovidge said. "Taxpayers should follow the same procedures for their Massachusetts return as outlined by the IRS in its announcements." Taxpayers are encouraged to e-file their returns. DOR's free Telefile program will also be available until midnight, April 19.

The Department will continue to keep taxpayers apprised of any developments. For the latest information, check DOR's website or the IRS website at www.irs.gov. Taxpayers can also contact the Department's Customer Service Bureau at (617) 887-MDOR or toll-free in Massachusetts at (800) 392-6089.
