A former manager of a group home run by the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) has admitted to stealing more than $16,000 in groceries that she purchased with group home funds.

Mary Jane Czupryna, of Belchertown, who retired from DDS, was prosecuted by the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office based on an investigation by the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) and the DDS Investigations Unit. The matter originally came to light when a complainant contacted the OIG’s Fight Fraud hotline.

On October 5, 2020, Judge Richard Carey, Associate Justice of the Superior Court, continued the case without a finding and sentenced Czupryna to five years of probation. Czupryna agreed to pay restitution of over $16,000 in monthly increments throughout the probationary period. If Czupryna pays the restitution and completes the probationary period, the indictments will be dismissed.
