LAWRENCE, MA — The Lawrence District Court Probation Department and the YWCA of Northeastern Massachusetts have collaborated to present the Clothesline Project to observe Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The Clothesline Project is a visual display of shirts with messages and illustrations that have been designed by survivors of violence or by someone who knows a woman who was killed due to violence, according to Lawrence District Probation Officer Lidia Maldonado. The installment is on display at the Fenton Judicial Center through the end of October.
“The purpose of this project is to increase awareness of the impact of violence against women, to celebrate women’s strength to survive and to provide another venue for her to courageously break the silence that often surrounds her experience,” Maldonado stated.
She added, “The images are not only moving, but bring an absolute reality awakening that domestic violence is real and hurts too many.”
