Skip this video Message from Commissioner Ifill.Nearly 900 Massachusetts Probation Service employees attended the All MPS Conference: Building Community at the DCU Center in Worcester on Friday.
It was the second day of the conference which all MPS employees are required to attend. Nearly 1,800 employees—890 on the first day and 860 today—filled the halls at the DCU.
During opening remarks, Commissioner Pamerson Ifill acknowledged long-term employees and thanked administrative staff for their work and being on the frontline of MPS, including being the first to interact with court-involved individuals.
Friday’s session featured guest speaker Veronica Cunningham, Executive Director of the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA), who encouraged employees to join this national association specifically for Probation and Parole Officers. Dr. Gene Lambert, Chief Medical Officer at Massachusetts General Hospital, spoke about the impact of addiction on families and communities in his presentation, “Substance Use Disorders: The Intersection Between Mental Health and Community Supervision.”
The day-long conference featured breakout sessions: “Inside-Out Resilience: Confronting Adversity and Trauma in the Profession,” “Leave Benefits: Understanding your Rights, Benefits, and Obligations,” “Guided Growth: The MPS Mentoring Program,” and “Well Being, Support & You, Mass4You.”
The event also included testimony by JC Anderson, an employee of the Old Colony YMCA at the Brockton Community Justice Support Centers, who spoke about his “lived experience.”
Community Partner Speakers Greg Croteau, UTEC Chief Executive Officer, and Nichelle Sadler, UTEC Executive Director of the Training Center for Excellence, also addressed attendees.
The Commissioner thanked the MPS Training Division for their efforts in executing the two-day All MPS Conference.
