Massachusetts Probation Service managers from across the state gathered for the agency’s Fall Senior Managers Conference at the Massachusetts Training and Operations Center (MTOC) in Clinton on Friday, September 20th.

Probation Commissioner Pamerson Ifill acknowledged the Senior Managers for their hard work and praised staff for handling challenging, high profile cases.

Commissioner Ifill’s remarks were followed by a presentation by Department of Youth Services (DYS) Commissioner Cecely Reardon and two of her staff members: Katie Perry-Lorentz, Senior Director of Strategic Innovation, and Thula Sibanda, Chief Administrative Officer.

The DYS team introduced the 2016 documentary, “Seeing RED: Changing the Narrative,” a film that features children and families that have experience racial and ethnic disparities in the Massachusetts juvenile legal system.

MPS also created a training, “Seeing RED,” to educate staff about racial and ethnic disparities.

Vincent Lorenti, Executive Director of Community Services, spoke about the 18 Community Justice Support Centers (CJSC) which kicked off a Fall series of Open Houses at all of the 18 statewide Support Centers. The centers have been credited for reducing recidivism by up to 36 percent.

The Massachusetts Trial Court’s Personnel Department and MPS’ Marissa Pina, Administrative Services Manager, presented the PageUp’s Manager’s Onboarding Training. Among the presenters were Andrea Anderson, Deputy ACHRO Benefits & Onboarding; Mecca Holiday, Onboarding Coordinator; and T'shana Thomas, Onboarding Manager.

Office of Court Management Project Manager Michelle Kubat discussed the Service Now Overview. Eamonn Gill, Deputy Assistant Chief Human Resources Officer-Labor Relations, also presented using real life scenarios in the workforce to educate and prepare managers to handle both simple and complex matters pertaining to employees and employment. He touched on such topics as attendance and employee leave while encouraging MPS Senior staff to engage and more conversations and “brainstorm” solutions.
