Braintree — The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced today that state agencies and Regional Homeland Security Advisory Councils representing all areas of Massachusetts will receive more than $19 million to strengthen the state’s resilience and preparedness against terrorist acts.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Homeland Security Grant Program annually awards funds to the Massachusetts Office of Grants and Research (OGR). OGR administers and distributes the funds to eligible agencies to conduct allowable projects intended to strengthen state, regional and local preparedness and responses to critical incidents. This year, OGR is distributing $19,217,920 to the state’s five Regional Homeland Security Advisory Councils, one fiduciary agent and six state agencies.

“This grant program allows our administration to identify evolving threats to our state and invest in measures to be better prepared to prevent and respond to threats and critical incidents. We’re grateful to the Biden-Harris Administration for prioritizing the safety of our communities through these investments,” said Governor Maura Healey.

“Every community in Massachusetts will benefit from the initiatives funded through these grants. The training, equipment and emergency planning efforts undertaken through this funding will help ensure that our communities and critical infrastructure are protected against future threats,” said Lieutenant Governor Kim Driscoll.

“Preparedness is our greatest protection against threats. Collaboration across all levels of government combined with the necessary funding ensure that our cities and towns are prepared to respond and equipped to prevent potential emergencies. This grant is critical to safeguarding our communities and ensuring a coordinated, effective response in times of need,” said Public Safety and Security Secretary Terrence Reidy.

“As the threats we face evolve, so must our responses. These grant funds allow us to partner with federal, state and local agencies to ensure that Massachusetts and each of its communities are prepared and protected against potential threats. By equipping state and local agencies with these tools and resources, we’re strengthening our resilience,” said OGR Executive Director Kevin Stanton.
