Press Release  MTOC training staff launches quarterly effort to help feed struggling individuals and families

Clinton, MAThe Training Division at the Massachusetts Probation Service Training and Operations Center (MTOC) launched a quarterly charitable effort which will involve the MTOC staff preparing and serving hot meals at the WHEAT Community Connections Cupboard and Cafe at 272 High Street in Clinton. WHEAT Community Connections is a "Direct Service of United Way of Tri-County" that assists struggling individuals and families.

Last week in the spirit of Thanksgiving, the Training staff came together to serve a taco dinner to over 40 community residents in the Town of Clinton.  MTOC also provided more than 20 take-out dinners for those unable to travel to the cafe--such as the elderly and infirm, according to Patricia Gavin, Statewide Training Director, and Julie Grady, MTOC Administrative Coordinator.

“This is an incredible opportunity for us to give back to our community that has been so gracious and supportive,” stated Gavin and Grady.

Jodi Breidel, North County Regional Director for WHEAT, commented, “Having MTOC staff volunteer at WHEAT not only helps us provide basic needs to our most vulnerable population, but it also sends a message to our clients that there’s a broader safety net of people outside of WHEAT who care about them and their well-being. Thank you for helping us fill bellies and hearts through your volunteerism.”

“The Training Division decided together that this team building activity is an inclusive way to give back to the local community. This was the first of what is expected to be a quarterly event with MTOC staff,” Grady and Gavin stated.

Grady added “I believe giving back to our community is so very important, especially during the holiday season. To quote Audrey Hepburn 'As you grow older, you will discover that you have two hands - one for helping yourself, the other for helping others'."

MTOC Administrative Assistant Lisa Bonin said of this charitable event, "It was an experience I will cherish, it was both eye-opening and humbling."

WHEAT Community Connections describes its mission this way: "Our mission is to give support to individuals and families who find themselves experiencing economic and personal challenges by providing emergency assistance and programs that promote self-sufficiency. The non-profit organization serves residents of Berlin, Bolton, Clinton, Lancaster, and Sterling.
