Boston, MA — Massachusetts Probation Commissioner Edward J. Dolan has named Nina Pomponio Deputy Legal Counsel for the Massachusetts Probation Service.
As Deputy Legal Counsel, Pomponio will provide specialized administrative and legal assistance to the Probation Commissioner and the Massachusetts Probation Service. Performing legal research, writing legal memoranda, and making recommendations on issues involving the interpretations of policies, statutes, and common law are among Pomponio’s other duties. She will work under the direction of the Probation Service Legal Counsel Sarah Joss.
Prior to her appointment as Deputy Legal Counsel, Pomponio served as an Administrative Attorney at OCP after being hired by the Massachusetts Trial Court in 2015. Pomponio also worked as a Prosecuting Counsel for four years at the Division of Professional Licensure as well as an Assistant District Attorney in the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
“We are thrilled to have Nina’s level of expertise and her enthusiasm in this position,” said Legal Counsel Sarah Joss.
“Back in law school, when I studied probation as part of my concentration, I don’t think I would have believed you if you told me I’d someday be the Deputy Legal Counsel. I am so honored to be able to do work that I truly care about, and I look forward to continuing to help the Probation Service in this new role.”
Pomponio earned a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy in 2004 from Boston University and a Juris Doctorate in 2007 from Boston University School of Law (BUSL). She is active in several organizations including the Massachusetts Bar Association and multiple alumni advising programs with BUSL. Most recently, the MBA appointed Pomponio as the Chair of the Criminal Justice Section Council.
