Media Contact for Northern Berkshire Probation Officers came to aid of injured elderly woman while on home visit to probationer
Coria Holland, Communications Director
The Probation Officers assumed that it was the elderly mother of the probationer living at the home. They were aware that the woman suffers with dementia.
POII's Sacco and Banks attempted to gain entry; but, found the door was locked. They called Williamstown Police and headed to the back of the home where they found the probationer blaring music unaware that his mother had taken a tumble. The probationer lives with his sister, brother-in-law, and elderly mother.
“When you are in the field you have to be ready for many different scenarios. I am just glad we happened to be at the right place and at the right time to assist the elderly women who had fallen,” said POII Banks.
"He had music playing loudly so he didn't hear at first. PO Sacco was able to get to the probationer's mother who was on the floor in front of the door while PO Banks went outside to wait for help. The elderly woman was transported to the hospital for treatment," said Northern Berkshire Chief Probation Officer Donald Wright. "I am really proud of my staff and their efforts to help this elderly woman."
Chief Wright added, "The PO's were there at the right time to help this poor woman. Who knows how long it would have taken for the probationer or someone to help her. "
PO Sacco reported that the elderly woman was treated for injuries to her hip, leg and arm and is now back home.
