The Inspector General’s Internal Special Audit Unit (ISAU) has undertaken numerous reviews and investigations in fulfillment of its statutory obligation to monitor the quality, efficiency and integrity of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). The ISAU’s 2022 Annual Report includes information on the unit’s principal activities in calendar year 2022, such as its review of MBTA contracts for privatized services, including absence management and police dispatch services. The report also highlights the MBTA’s expenditure of federal pandemic funds, the ISAU’s analysis of past-due monies owed to MassDOT under various leases of its properties and the decertification of a company that no longer qualified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise.
