Governor Healey signed the fiscal year 2025 state budget on July 29, 2024 – a $57.78 billion plan that builds on the many strengths of the Massachusetts economy and addresses some of the state’s biggest challenges.
Among investments, the state FY25 budget invests $3.3 million in Massachusetts Registered Apprenticeship—a key tool in the Healey-Driscoll Administration’s toolbox to build a robust talent pipeline for today and develop, attract, and retain a future workforce. This investment will not only support the immediate needs of employers but also foster long-term economic growth by providing individuals with the skills necessary for high-demand occupations.
The focus on Massachusetts Registered Apprenticeship programs reflects a commitment to creating pathways for success across various industries, ultimately leading to a more resilient and dynamic workforce. The investments in the FY25 budget remind us that beyond the line items, programs like Massachusetts Registered Apprenticeship have a direct impact on people’s lives. We must keep individuals at the center of our workforce agenda.
Amanda calls Massachusetts Registered Apprenticeship her “golden ticket”. Being a carpenter isn’t just a job she loves and takes pride in. It’s a pathway to a better life for her, her family, and everyone in her community.
Jeremiah began his Massachusetts Registered Apprenticeship with no prior experience in welding. Thanks to the mentorship he received, he is now training other apprentices. He believes businesses should invest in skilled workers, as it represents a "growth and gain in all areas" – benefiting both employers and employees alike.
At the Executive Office of Labor and Workforce Development, we are dedicated to expanding Massachusetts Registered Apprenticeship into key industries. This includes education to address the need for early childhood educators, advanced manufacturing to meet the demand for skilled CNC operators, and healthcare to meet the need for certified medical and nursing assistants.
