Boston, MA — The State Ethics Commission issued a formal opinion, EC-FD-23-1, stating that § 6 of G.L. c. 268B, the financial disclosure law, does not prohibit a legislator from accepting loyalty rewards program benefits offered by a casino. Section 6 restricts public employees subject to the Financial Disclosure Law, and their immediate family members, from accepting gifts of any kind or nature from an executive or legislative agent. Anyone who holds a license issued by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission is considered a legislative agent.
