Acquiring used furniture or equipment through the State Surplus Property Office (SSPO) is a sustainable and cost-saving option available to public buyers, such as state agencies, cities and towns, school districts, eligible non-profits, and more.
The purpose of the SSPO is to ensure that the Commonwealth realizes the maximum benefit from state-owned property. Through this program, state agencies report items no longer needed or used to the SSPO, and the SSPO makes those items available to other public buyers.
- Product Lifecycle: Instead of trashing unneeded property, items get a second life
- Cost: Although local government and non-profit organizations are charged a small administrative fee for the transfer of surplus property, typically the fee is still well below the cost of buying new
- Easy to Acquire: Acquiring property from the SSPO is as easy as browsing through the listed items (pictures and descriptions included), requesting the item, and arranging for payment and pickup!
Frequent items found on the Surplus Property Website include desks, chairs, printers, computers, and computer accessories, but quite often there are other more unique items!
The SSPO also facilitates the transfer of Federal Surplus Property for state entities. The items available through this program range from furniture to specialized equipment. Organizations with specific needs may reach out to the SSPO to discuss acquisition through the Federal Surplus Program.
