Student Veteran Council (SVC)

The Student Veteran Council (SVC) will provide veteran leaders with the opportunity to directly influence student veteran life on campus and across the Commonwealth.

Responsibilities

As an SVC Representative you will be the spokesperson for student veterans on your campus. We are looking for engaged and proactive leaders who seek to improve the educational experience for their fellow veterans. Joining a cohort of thirty representatives across the Commonwealth, you will shape the state of student veterans affairs in Massachusetts.

About the Council

Cohort Requirements:

  • Participate in the inaugural SVC Charter
  • Contribute to four newsletters during the 2024-25 academic year
  • Engage in three community service opportunities during the 2024-25 academic year (volunteer at a food pantry, plant flags at veterans cemeteries, etc.)
  • Join a monthly virtual meeting with fellow SVC members
  • Attend the SVC kickoff event in November
  • Take part in local veteran events (parades, hiring events, socials, and other activities.)

Upon completion of your term as a member of the Student Veteran Council, you will have:

  • Learned how to advocate for yourself and your student veteran community across the Commonwealth
  • Broadened your understanding of the civic process by taking a direct part in shaping the state of student veteran affairs
  • Gained experience in planning and mobilizing your community
  • Honed leadership and public speaking skills while serving as a voice for the student veteran community
