The Board of Medicine is committed to physician health and self-care. Please see the below resources to address and treat health conditions.
The Massachusetts Physician Health Services (PHS) is a nationally recognized physician assistance program. PHS's trained staff can confidentially help doctors with:
• alcohol misuse
• substance use disorder
• behavioral or mental or physical health issues that currently impair the ability to practice medicine
• stress, including administrative burdens
• financial pressures
• work-family balance issues.
Physician Health Services does not treat, but may refer a physician for evaluation and treatment, if necessary. PHS services are available to all MA physicians, whether or not they belong to the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS). PHS is independent of the Board of Registration in Medicine and funded by the Massachusetts Medical Society, Inc.
