Re: School Closure

On March 5, 2009 the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (Department), having received information that the Connecticut School of Broadcasting (CSB) may have ceased operating, attempted to gain access to the above premises. However, upon arrival, Department staff found CSB's doors locked and a sign posted on the door stating, "Closed until further notice." On March 10, 2009 the Department sent a letter to CSB requesting clarification regarding CSB's status.

On March 10, 2009, the Department was notified that GCP CT School Acquisition LLC (GCB), the parent company that owns CSB, had filed for bankruptcy relief under Chapter 7 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code on March 6, 2009 at the United States Bankruptcy Court in Boston. The case was assigned to Judge William C. Hillman and the docket number is 09-11846. The trustee overseeing the bankruptcy is Lynne Riley.

On March 17, 2009, the Trustee filed a motion seeking approval to conduct a teach-out. The court granted the motion today and the school is scheduled to re-open on Monday, March 23, 2009, to teach-out the 12 evening students who were scheduled to complete their coursework this month.

It is the Department's understanding that the teach-out does not apply to the students who had enrolled for the program that was scheduled to begin on March 23, 2009. The Department will be contacting those students in order to determine their status. If you do not receive a letter by April 1, 2009, please contact the proprietary school office. Any questions you have should be directed to David Banner.

The Department will post an updated bulletin as soon as we have additional information. In the meantime, if you paid the school for coursework that you did not receive, please try the options outlined in Bulletin #1. Please do not file claims at this time.

The Department greatly appreciates your help in keeping the volume of phone calls we receive to a minimum by checking these bulletins. We thank you for your patience in this matter.
